What Students Do
Each kit still walks students through the full process: soak the pad, punch a stencil, plant red amaranth inside the shape, plant basil around it, mist, cover for 3 days, then move to light and water daily until harvest 1–2 weeks later. The two included rounds give students one attempt to learn the stencil technique and a second attempt to apply it — whether that means trying the stencil again for a cleaner result or using the second round to freehand their own design is entirely up to them; the seed and pad supply covers either choice, just not both a full second stencil attempt and a separate freestyle round.

Q: How many planting rounds does this bundle include?
A: Each kit in the Compact Bundle includes enough seed and supplies for 2 planting rounds, compared to 3 rounds in the Single Art Pail and Deluxe Classroom Bundle.
Q: With only 2 rounds, can students still design something freestyle without a stencil?
A: Yes — the two rounds can be used however you choose, including one stencil round and one freestyle round. There just isn't enough seed supply in this version for two guided stencil rounds plus a separate third freestyle round the way the Deluxe Bundle allows.
Q: Do we need grow lights or anything beyond what's in the box?
A: No. A bright windowsill or a spot under normal classroom lighting is enough. You'll need scissors for harvest, which aren't included.
Q: Is this a good fit for a one-day science activity instead of a multi-week unit?
A: Yes. Since setup and harvest are the two hands-on days, with just a daily watering check in between, this works well as a self-contained activity even with only 2 rounds of seed.
