What Makes This a Real Lesson, Not Just a Craft Project
Every kit gives students three planting rounds, which is what turns this from a one-shot novelty into an actual multi-day unit:

Round 1 — Guided stencil. Students use a pre-cut stencil insert to plant their first design. This is the "learn the technique" round — expect uneven spreading and clumped seeds, and that's fine.

Round 2 — Guided stencil, second attempt. Same stencil-based process, now with the muscle memory from round 1. This is usually where designs get noticeably cleaner.

Classroom Notes

No green thumb required. If you've never run a plant-based lesson before, this is a low-risk way to start — the hydroponic pad removes most of the ways a soil-based classroom garden project usually fails (overwatering dirt, uneven light, pests).

Watch water, not sunlight. A windowsill or a bright spot under classroom lights both work. The far more common issue is overwatering, not underwatering — keep the pad damp, not soaked.

Fuzzy white ≠ mold. Fine white strands on the pad are usually root hairs, which are normal and harmless. True mold looks web-like and patchy. When in doubt, don't harvest that section.

Harvest promptly. Once greens hit height, flavor and color are best within a few days — build harvest day into your lesson plan rather than letting it drift.
