GrowArt™ is part life-science lab, part art project, and part snack. Students stencil a design, plant it in seed, and watch it grow in living color — then harvest it and eat it. No soil, no garden, no green thumb required.
Stencil and plant
Students punch out a shape, sprinkle red amaranth seeds inside it and basil seeds around it on a soil-free hydroponic pad. Dry seeds, damp pad — no mud, no mess.
Three days dark, then light
Trays go under a lid somewhere cool and dark for three days, then move to a bright windowsill. Daily watering becomes the classroom routine kids fight over.
Watch the design appear
Over one to two weeks, deep red amaranth fills in the stenciled shape against bright green basil. The science is visible, daily, and impossible to fake.
Harvest and eat it
At 1–2 inches, students snip, rinse, and eat their own microgreens. Every kit runs three full rounds: two guided with stencils, one freestyle where they design their own.

- Complete a short feedback survey after running the kit with your students — including what didn't work

You don't need a garden, a greenhouse, or a science background. You need a windowsill and a willingness to tell us what you really think.

- Homeschool co-op leaders running a group of students
- Any subject: science, art, nutrition, health, special education, or self-contained elementary
- Teachers who will actually run it this school year, not stash it in a closet
- People comfortable being photographed and quoted, and comfortable telling us bad news

Questions
Is this really free? Is there a catch?
It's free, and the catch is stated above in plain English: we want honest feedback, photos we can use, and a teacher willing to talk about FTF to other educators. No purchase, no contract, no credit card, no obligation to buy anything afterward.
How many kits come in a classroom bundle?
Twenty-four individual kits — enough for a full classroom, or for a small-group rotation across several classes. Each kit includes enough seeds and supplies for three full rounds of growing.
Do I need a garden, grow lights, or any equipment?
No. GrowArt grows hydroponically on a soil-free pad, indoors, on an ordinary windowsill. Everything you need is in the box: pads, seeds, stencils, a planting tool, a misting bottle, and a tray with a lid.
How long does it take from planting to harvest?
Typically 10 to 17 days total — a three-day dark period followed by one to two weeks in light before the greens reach 1–2 inches and are ready to snip and eat.
What grade levels does this work for?
We've seen it work from early elementary through high school. Younger students focus on the plant life cycle and the art; older students can run it as a controlled experiment with variables, measurement, and data collection. Tell us your grade level on the application and we'll point you to the right angle.
Do I need my principal's or district's approval?
You know your building better than we do. Nothing in GrowArt requires a purchase order or district procurement since there's no cost — but if your school requires approval for outside materials, photography of students, or social media posts, please get that sorted before you apply. The application asks about it.
What about photos of my students?
You control this completely. Photos of hands, trays, and finished designs are just as useful to us as photos with faces in them — many teachers send only those. If you do send photos with identifiable students, you're confirming you have the photo releases your school requires. We will never publish a student's name.
What if the kits don't work, or my students hate it?
Then we want to hear that most of all. A feedback program that only collects praise is worthless. If something fails, tell us what failed and we'll fix the product.
Can more than one teacher from my school apply?
Yes, but we're likely to select at most one teacher per school so the ten bundles reach ten different communities.
What if I'm not selected?
You'll hear from us by October 23 either way. We'll also send you a free GrowArt lesson plan and let you know first if we run another round.
